My Two Cent on Kapil Sibal's Comment on Censorship on Social Networking content

After the up set by series of event of FDI set back and all other corruption charges lead congress Govt. Its now time for other mistake they are going to make. Person doing is non other them Kapil Sibal who is known for its over smartness and so called miss management of various past event. Minister now going to censoring freedom of expression. A minister is upset because certain pages of a social networking site contains material where people express their opinions with rather creative expression to convey their displeasure against the government. He summons the top bosses of these companies ordering them to take down the stuff! Thank god, they were transnational corporations and therefore have some bargaining power in the matter. And they are bargaining, for good reason!

I don’t disagree that some of the content may indeed be objectionable. Also perhaps it may violate some laws of the land and may potentially trigger communal riots, political violence etc. However, is summoning the CEOs of these platform providers to a meeting the way to go about it. I reckon not and here’s the alternative.

As ordinary users, what do we do when we find something objectionable on Facebook, Twitter or anywhere on the Internet! We report it to the platform provider. Most popular platform providers have such mechanisms. They evaluate our complaint w.r.t. their policies and act. And just like individual users, even businesses who manage pages and microsites on such platforms, monitor their online buzz for various reasons including this one!

Why does Mr Sibal and his party, The Indian National Congress, not institute a social media monitoring cell. And if they find certain content objectionable, they must complain.

Rather they are so entrenched in their old days of hegemonic control of the media, that they know no better. Just that they would have wielded a leash on Mr Prannoy Roy (for instance) to stop covering a particular story if they found it objectionable, they expect Facebook to start taking down pages!

That this Government is exceptionally poor at managing their public presence, we have seen time and again. The two fasts of Anna H, the Ramdev incident and now this #IdiotKabilSibal trend on twitter.

Journey Towards Change .....!!!!

IIFM Campus (Photo Credit: Abhishekh Chauhan PFM-12)

There was time when I was riding bike and see that huge garbage dumping on side of road by people carelessly without thinking what it leads to be. I always think about how this world survives where every person just thinking about herself. It sees that Govt, politicians, corporate all are having only interest of making money which is known fact that no one can took it with him when he/she leave this planet. I try to understand that which thing needed to change, so we can make this India “ram rajya” (little bit selfish only India :D ).

Finally with all this I reached IIFM, many thought, ideas and curiosity. It started with 21th June when I reached campus. First few days had a talk with great person includes divers background including, IPS officer to Social activist which made excellent start. In all this, Made new friend, Infect mini India inside class, with few (very few) female fertility in class. Giving seamless smiling to everyone, talking with divers people all that made it a happy start. Then after it is big beesshhh had a First field trip to Panchamani and get to know where India lives. Where problem lies and where correction needed. Rural people needed it most. Visited PRADAN- NGO working on grass root rural project related to development, had a great talk with Mr. Vishal Jamkar (Salute to this man). Panchamani’s visit is most memorable. 1st July, when we started with lecture, some good and ugly experience of faculty. Night bakar is now part of life and also mate former don of Nehru Nagar (Shobit Mani …:P). Senior, how can I forget you? In this having great talk, idea sharing with seniors, but there is always confusion in mind that by which topic/thing we can talk to them (it continuing still somehow managing). Toughest thing is that to attend lecture which I left five year back. With reading new avenues understanding green managers, development which can pour more knowledge to my mind.

In the wake of Jan Lokpal bill hitting the road – I support single efforts, which can reduces drop of corruption in India (Hope you also), With hope that, This movement will make some impact on the mind of People ....I am ending my words here.
